National Archives website records more than 15,000 visits in its first year!

One year after its launch, the National Archives website has made the archival heritage of the Principality more accessible and has confirmed its success with the public. Developed jointly by the teams of the National Archives, the Digital Services Department and the Information Systems Department, the website provides researchers, genealogists and the general public with easy access to a wide range of heritage resources. It also offers archive holders, whether government departments, businesses or private individuals, guidance and procedures for the proper management of their records and data.

In its first year, the website surpassed 15,000 visits. Nearly 60,000 pages were viewed, reflecting growing public interest.

Among its most popular features are:

• Search tools for archival collections
•   Passport application records of Monegasque nationals between 1917 and 1931, particularly valuable for genealogical research alongside the municipal civil status records
• Urban planning photographs documenting the evolution of Monaco

To date, 94 archival finding aids and collection descriptions are available online, including nearly one-third originating from the Caroline Media Library Heritage Collection, notably relating to the historical archives of the Municipality.

This first year was also marked by the launch of the virtual exhibition dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Monaco’s accession to the Council of Europe, as well as the publication of numerous documents and thematic files, including several series linked to current events, such as motor sport, the visit of Pope Leo XIV, and commemorations of the 1956 Princely Wedding.

To celebrate this anniversary, six new finding aids are being published this week, devoted in particular to AS Monaco FC, the Monaco Grand Prix, the Monte-Carlo Rally, and the 1967 Montreal World Expo.

In the coming months, in addition to numerous news features, new public and private archival inventories will be made available online, together with the digital version of the exhibition “Preserving the Mediterranean: RAMOGE, a Pioneering Agreement for 50 Years.”

The National Archives Department and the Digital Services Department are thus continuing their shared ambition: to make Monaco’s heritage ever more accessible through digital technology.
