NEWS RELEASE

Monaco Screening Centre is organising a new public campaign to screen for lung cancer.

Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths today, with most cases due to smoking. Early detection allows for more effective treatment and considerably increases the chances of remission and recovery.

Led by Mr Christophe ROBINO, Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Monaco Screening Centre is organising a new public campaign to screen for lung cancer.

If you are aged between 50 and 80 and currently covered by the national health insurance scheme, you will shortly be receiving a letter inviting you to complete a brief questionnaire that will determine whether you are eligible for screening. If your responses show you are eligible, you should make an appointment to get tested at Monaco Screening Centre.

In addition to your age, other factors are also taken into account. To be eligible for screening, you must:

  • Be a smoker or a former smoker and have smoked the equivalent of at least one packet of cigarettes a day for twenty years
  • Not currently be treated or monitored specifically for a lung-related illness

The screening tests are simple, quick, and painless. They use a low-dose chest CT scan, performed without injection and entirely free of charge.

By taking part in this campaign, you will be helping to prevent and fight lung cancer.
