Health situation relating to hantavirus outbreak identified on cruise ship MV Hondius

At this stage, no contact cases residing in the Principality have been identified.

The Prince's Government is closely monitoring the health situation related to the hantavirus outbreak identified on board the cruise ship MV Hondius, whose passengers were disembarked on 10 May in the Canary Islands before their return to their respective countries.

Accordingly, the Monegasque health authorities are fully mobilised. They ensure continuous monitoring of the situation's evolution, following international recommendations, and in coordination with local and regional healthcare professionals.

With regard to protective measures, the Principality of Monaco has a strategic stock of surgical masks and FFP2 masks, allowing, if necessary, to respond to an epidemic risk.

To date, the health situation relating to hantavirus corresponds to a limited international cluster, linked to a single index event, with no evidence of spread within the general population.

It warrants heightened vigilance to enable rapid detection of any imported cases and to ensure the health system is prepared, without impact on the normal functioning of care provision, nor any need for special measures for the population.

The Prince's Government will keep the public informed of any developments in the situation.
