Heatwave conditions set to affect the Principality
A heatwave is forecast in the Principality over the coming days. In view of the risks associated with rising daytime and night-time temperatures, the Prince's Government is urging everyone to exercise the utmost vigilance, particularly with regard to the most vulnerable members of the community.
Prolonged exposure to heat should be avoided, as it can have serious health consequences, including dehydration, heatstroke and fainting.
Infants, young children, pregnant women, older persons and people suffering from chronic illnesses are particularly vulnerable.
Likewise, outdoor workers, athletes and anyone exposed to heat for prolonged periods should take appropriate precautions to protect themselves.
A few simple measures can help reduce the risks associated with high temperatures:
- Limit outings and avoid physical activity during the hottest hours of the day
- Keep your home cool by closing shutters and windows during the day
- Drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day, spread throughout the day
- Cool down regularly
- Check regularly on relatives and neighbours, particularly those who are isolated or vulnerable
Everyone has a role to play in protecting the most vulnerable and helping ensure that this heatwave period passes safely.
In the event of illness, heatstroke or any emergency, please dial 112.
