It's time for the annual harvest of bitter oranges!

From 12 January 2026, gardeners from the Department of Urban Amenities (DAU) will begin the Principality’s annual harvest of bitter orange trees (bigaradiers).

In 2025, the Principality counted nearly 1,200 citrus trees (orange, lemon, clementine trees, etc.), including more than 600 untreated bitter orange trees.

Each year, in January and February, DAU gardeners prune the various fruit trees and harvest the bitter oranges (sour oranges) growing along streets in the districts of La Condamine, Les Moneghetti and Monte-Carlo.

Anyone wishing to receive bitter oranges during this annual harvest is invited to approach the gardeners on site.

In 2025, more than 15 tonnes were harvested, including nearly 4.5 tonnes distributed free of charge to the public and to Lycée Rainier III, where the fruit was processed into jams and fruit pastes.

The bitter orange harvest will take place according to the following schedule (from 8.00 a.m. to 2.30 p.m., subject to weather conditions and progress of the harvest):

• La Condamine district:
  • 12 to 23 January : Rue Grimaldi
  • 26 January to 6 February: Rue Princesse Caroline
• Les Moneghetti district:
  • 19 to 30 January: Boulevard de Belgique
• Monte-Carlo district:
  • 12 to 15 January: Boulevard d’Italie
  • 19 to 23 January: Avenue de Grande-Bretagne

Visitors are also invited to discover the exhibition "Sur la Route des Agrumes" (Along the Citrus Route), installed on Rue Princesse Caroline, on display until February 2026!
