New stamp issue on 9 March 2026

Monaco’s Stamp Issuing Office will release four stamps for sale on 9 March 2026 for the first half of 2026.

An iconic Formula 1 car designed by Colin Chapman, the Lotus 33 is distinguished by its lightweight and innovative monocoque chassis, a direct successor to the Lotus 25. Powered by a Climax V8 engine, it offered excellent balance and remarkable handling. Jim Clark drove it to numerous victories, including the 1965 World Championship title.

Designed by Steve Nichols and refined by Gordon Murray, the McLaren MP4/4 is an absolute icon of performance, technical simplicity and sporting dominance. Introduced in 1988 and powered by a powerful and reliable Honda V6 turbo engine, it featured a very low chassis and extremely efficient aerodynamics. Driven by Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, it won 15 of the 16 Grands Prix of the 1988 season, securing both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles.

Organised by the Automobile Club de Monaco since 1997, the Monaco Historic Grand Prix, held every two years, has become a key event for collectors worldwide and for enthusiasts of exceptional cars. The 15th edition will take place from 24 to 26 April 2026 on the legendary Monaco circuit. The poster pays tribute to one of the greatest names in Formula 1, Niki Lauda, fifty years after his second consecutive victory at the Monaco Grand Prix in 1976.

Born in 1904 in Galliate, Italy, Achille Varzi was one of the greatest Italian drivers of the interwar period. Initially a motorcycle racing champion, he quickly turned to motor racing and achieved success with Alfa Romeo, Bugatti and later Auto Union. A fierce rival of Tazio Nuvolari, he was distinguished by his elegant driving style and precision at the wheel. His career was interrupted by the Second World War and by personal difficulties. After returning to competition after the war, he died tragically during practice for the 1948 Swiss Grand Prix. Varzi remains a legend of motor sport.

This issue will be on sale at the Monaco Stamp Office, the "Musée des Timbres et des Monnaies", post offices and philatelic counters of the Principality, from Monegasque stamp dealers, as well as at the Carré d’Encre in Paris. It will be offered to OETP subscribers and customers, together with the other issues of the philatelic programme for the first half of 2026.
