Onset of hot weather: Let us all remain vigilant
The first spells of hot weather are expected in the Principality over the coming days. In light of the risks associated with rising temperatures, the Prince's Government is calling on everyone to exercise the utmost vigilance, particularly towards the most vulnerable people.
Prolonged exposure to heat can lead to dehydration or heat stroke, which may sometimes be severe. Babies, young children, pregnant women, older persons and people living with chronic illnesses are particularly vulnerable.
However, healthy people are not immune. Athletes, outdoor workers or anyone exposed to heat for prolonged periods should also adopt the appropriate precautions to protect themselves.
A few simple measures can help prevent the effects of heat:
- Drink at least 1.5 litres per day, spread throughout the day
- Cool down regularly
- Limit outings and avoid physical activity during the hottest hours of the day
- Keep your home cool by closing shutters and windows during the daytime hours
- Check regularly on relatives and neighbours, particularly those who are isolated or vulnerable
Everyone's vigilance is essential to protect the most vulnerable and to get through periods of hot weather safely.
In the event of illness, heatstroke or any emergency, dial 112.
