The Government is modernising vehicle registration
The Prince’s Government is introducing changes to the annual car sticker scheme and modernising the vehicle registration renewal process.
Led by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office, the reform will be introduced in stages, starting with a new annual timetable and eventually abolishing physical car stickers completely.
Around 53,000 vehicles are affected, including nearly 6,000 fully electric vehicles. The car sticker will remain free of charge for electric vehicles, in line with the Government’s energy transition policy.
A new timetable
To make the process clearer and simpler for drivers, changes have been made to the timetable for annual renewals, which now follows the calendar year. Registrations can be renewed from today, Monday 1 September, with payment due by 31 December.
Drivers will still have four months to renew their registration. After this period, vehicles that have not been renewed will no longer be permitted on public roads.
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office strongly encourages drivers to pay online. This can be done at any time via the official Government portal at Mon Service Public or via their MonGuichet.
Changes to the car sticker starting this year
The year of issue will no longer appear on the sticker found on the registration certificate.
Eventually, the physical sticker will be phased out entirely and replaced with a simpler, more modern system. Details will be announced in the coming months, following consultation with other Government departments.
