In one month’s time, the Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Women’s Rights will mark International Women’s Rights Day through the POWHER event, organised in partnership with a range of stakeholders.

Now in its third consecutive year, POWHER will take place on Friday 6 March 2026, from 11.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., at the Espace Léo Ferré. This year’s edition will focus on a woman’s life journey, explored through the lenses of sport, health and equality. The Espace Léo Ferré will feature an original scenographic layout in which sport will play a central role, notably through a photographic exhibition showcasing Monegasque sportswomen.“This event aims to highlight the differences that exist in the life cycles of women and men, as well as the inequalities that may result from them”, explains Céline Cottalorda, Country Chief Women’s Rights Officer. Numerous Monegasque associations and organisations will be present throughout the day to offer activities and respond to questions from the public. “The event is designed to be both engaging and informative, addressing a wide range of topics including stereotypes in sport, the onset of menstruation, the treatment of certain women’s health conditions, the legacy passed on to future generations, and many other issues”, continues Céline Cottalorda.Treasure hunt, artistic installation and photographic exhibitionThe day’s flagship activities will include: A unique collective artwork created by Mr One Teas, enabling visitors to take part in the journey and leave with a keepsake. “I wanted to create an installation that echoes a fundamental struggle: that of equality, carried forward every day by women, in sport as in all areas of society” explains the artist, who is also an ambassador for women’s rights.  A treasure hunt, inviting participants to uncover a password that will allow them to cross the finish line, where Mr One Teas’ artwork will be located. To find this password, visitors will collect clues by exploring the different stages of a woman’s life, from childhood through to later life. A photographic exhibition by Sébastien Salamand, known as Le Turk, highlighting Monegasque sportswomen. Six sports will be represented: rugby, football, basketball, judo, athletics and gymnastics. A public speaking competition to close the dayAs youth engagement is a priority for the Committee, a public speaking competition will be held on 6 March, starting at 6.00 p.m., in the hemicycle of the National Council, which hosted the first round of the inaugural edition of this competition in 2025. The event will provide an opportunity to discover the perspectives of upper-secondary school pupils from the Principality on the theme “A Story of Equality: from Ego to Equals”. The competition will be broadcast live on Monaco Info. Registration is open until 15 February 2026.Free admission to the Espace Léo Ferré.
Programme details and competition registration are available on the website of Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Women’s Rights  and via the Committee’s social media channels: Facebook et Instagram

With registrations opening for Pass’Sport Culture activities for the winter holidays, the Digital Transition Office and the Department of Education, Youth and Sport (DENJS) announce the introduction of a new online payment option to make the process easier for families.

Until now, registration for Pass’Sport Culture activities required users to attend the Academic Counselling and Education Resource Centre (CIEN) in person, both to book activities and to make payment. It is now possible to book activities by phone and complete payment online, without the need for an in-person visit. This new option offers greater flexibility in the registration process, while continuing to provide on-site support for users who wish to be assisted in person. The rollout of this new option reflects joint work by the Department of Education, Youth and Sport and the Digital Transition Office, as part of the ongoing modernisation of services offered to families. Through this improvement, Pass’Sport Culture continues to evolve, offering simpler and more accessible pathways tailored to users’ needs. As a reminder, Pass’Sport Culture is open to young people aged 11 to 25 of Monegasque nationality, as well as residents or those enrolled in education in Monaco, and offers access to a wide range of sports and cultural activities throughout the year.

In his podcast Monaco Buscast, Arthur Pucnik-Danty explores the history of the Principality through its bus stops.

Names like Spélugues, Castelleretto, Citronniers, Biovès, Louis Aureglia… sound familiar? That’s no coincidence! These locations and the people they’re named after are well known in Monaco and mark the daily journeys of residents, as they give their names to stops on the city’s bus network. Similar to Laurent Deutsch’s Métronome, which explores the metro stations of Paris, Monaco’s very own Arthur Pucnik-Danty has delved into the stories behind the bus stops that tell the story of the Principality. And he shares the findings of his research in his podcast, Monaco Buscast. There are 46 episodes, each 1 to 2 minutes long available to discover on Spotify… Perfect to listen to while waiting for your bus!Join him to learn all about three of Monaco’s most iconic bus stops on Your Monaco Instagram account.

OPERA SINGERS: LUCIENNE BRÉVALLucienne Bréval (1869–1935), born Bertha Agnès Lisette Schilling, was a French soprano originally from Switzerland, celebrated for her powerful vocal talents, superb timbre, and stage presence. Originally from Männedorf, near Zurich, she studied at the Conservatoire de Paris before making her debut at the Opéra de Paris in 1892, in Carl Maria von Weber’s Euryanthe. A versatile performer, she excelled in Wagnerian roles and in the operas of Gounod, Massenet, and Reyer. She performed in a number of world premieres, including that of Pénélope de Fauré, in 1913, at the Monte Carlo Opera. She retired from the stage in 1921, to become a voice teacher in Lausanne.Design and line-engraving: Sarah LAZAREVIC

The Department of Cultural Affairs is organising the second edition of its photography competition for young people aged 11 to 25, on the theme "Heritage at Risk", in line with the 2026 European Heritage Days theme.

After highlighting "Monaco’s architectural heritage" in 2025, the second edition of this photography contest will focus on the threats facing our tangible cultural heritage (such as works of art and furnishings, architecture, written and graphic works, built landscapes, gardens and archaeological sites) and intangible cultural heritage (including traditions, language, performing arts, rituals and festive events, traditional crafts and gastronomy). These threats include climate change, natural disasters, societal change, urban development and mass tourism. This second edition continues the Department’s commitment to engaging young people in the preservation of Monegasque heritage and to promoting the artistic expression of the Principality’s youth. Participants are invited to reflect on what Monaco’s cultural heritage represents to them and to consider ways of preserving it.An expert jury comprising Stéphane Bern, a leading figure in heritage promotion, the internationally renowned photographer and documentary filmmaker Nick Danziger, as well as several personalities from Monaco’s cultural sphere, will select 15 photographs from among the entries and award prizes to three photographers, one in each of the following age categories: 11–14, 15–18 and 19–25.Particular attention will be paid to the artistic quality of the submitted photographs, as well as to the depth of reflection on the theme of heritage at risk. The competition is open to young people aged 11 to 25 who are Monegasque nationals, residents, students in the Principality, or working in Monaco. For more information and to register, please visit culture.mc before 15 March 2026 at 11:59 p.m. and fill out the form available here.

The 840 students of Lycée Albert Ier, who were previously attending classes at Annonciade, resumed lessons via remote learning on Monday, 5 January 2026.

As from 12 January, the Government will give priority to a gradual return to in-person teaching, in particular for examination classes and technical courses, notably laboratory-based teaching. The new teaching sites will be fully operational as from 26 January 2026.Most of the facilities brought into service will be located around Promenade Honoré II, with the available classrooms at Collège Charles III and Lycée Rainier III also being fully utilised. With immediate effect, students who so wish — in particular Year 10 students (Seconde) — may benefit from a reception and study space at Collège Charles III, enabling them to exchange and follow remote learning, pending the gradual resumption of in-person classes (under arrangements communicated directly to teachers and students).Furthermore, in order to free up teaching slots for these upper-secondary students at Lycée Rainier III, higher-education classes will be relocated as from 12 January to classrooms at ISM in the “Ruscino” building, located on Quai Antoine Ier. These premises will also host essential non-teaching facilities for upper-secondary students, including guidance counsellors, psychologists, a social worker, the library and parent reception areas. At the same time, reinforcement works on the retaining wall of the former Collège Rainier III are continuing: three additional ground anchors are now fully operational, and the data available to the Government show pressure levels well below alert thresholds. Further works will nevertheless be required and are incompatible with the schooling of upper-secondary students. By contrast, the sports and community facilities housed in the former Technical High School building will be accessible again as from Wednesday, 7 January, as will access to the Annonciade public car park.In order to provide students and parents with the best possible guidance, a guide containing practical information outlining the steps and timetable for returning to face-to-face learning is available (below).

Experts have been monitoring the stability of the rock face above the former Collège Charles III site in the Annonciade district for several years.

Following earlier reinforcement work on the retaining wall above the main building, which began in July 2025, further ground surveys took place during the autumn half-term, and the wall will be strengthened further over the Christmas holidays. However, recent measurements show that the rate of ground movement has accelerated, requiring additional work. This will be carried out by a specialist engineering firm, which will also perform a full assessment to ensure it is effective. The results are expected on 4 January. As a precaution, the Prince’s Government has decided that when the spring term begins on 5 January, the 840 high school pupils who have been based at the former Collège Charles III since September 2025 will initially follow lessons from home. The safety of students and staff remains the absolute priority. This also applies to community groups that use the school facilities. No risks will be taken.During the first week of January, the Government will decide whether teaching can continue on the site in the longer term. It will consider all options, including a move to an alternative location if needed, to allow classes to resume as quickly as possible. The Department of Education, Youth and Sport will contact parents shortly with details about the remote learning arrangements to be put in place.

From 18 December 2025, eligible residents will be able to apply for a certificate of residence more easily, and pay online. Paper applications will still be accepted.

From today, residents of the Principality aged 18 and over can apply for a certificate of residence online and pay the fee directly via the MonGuichet portal.Previously, applicants needed to purchase a tax stamp costing €5.00 in order to collect their certificate. From now on, the stamp will no longer be required, and instead you can pay the fee securely when completing your application online.
