Thursday 5 June 2025: World Environment Day "Beat Plastic Pollution"
The United Nations marks World Environment Day on 5 June each year to encourage global action for the protection of the world's land and marine environments. This year's theme is "Beat Plastic Pollution".
With over 100 countries marking the day since it started in 1974, it’s become a global platform for raising awareness.
The government is implementing numerous actions and initiatives to combat plastic use: a ban on plastic bags since 2016, a ban on single-use plastic packaging, raising awareness of packaging solutions and alternatives, organising beach cleans, etc.
To mark this awareness day, the Department of the Environment, along with several committed stakeholders from the Principality, invites you to visit its stand, which will be set up at the bottom of Rue Princesse Caroline throughout the day from 9am to 5.30pm.
A fun-filled programme has been specially prepared for you!
- 9am to 5.30pm: the Department of the Environment and the Ecoscience Provence Association will present solutions and alternatives to single-use plastics, how to spot misleading solutions, and the daily actions being taken by committed retailers and restaurants in the Principality. You can also participate in 'zero plastic' mini workshops and discuss biodiversity and environmental protection
- 9am to 11.30am – Green Box Monaco will present its zero-waste logistics solutions with its reusable transport crates
- 9.30am to 12pm: The Tourist and Convention Authority will present its solutions for helping international visitors get to grips with waste sorting, and the guide to sustainable tourism in the Principality
- 11.30am to 2.30 pm: Ecoslowasting will reveal all the secrets to its anti-food waste platform
- 1.30pm to 5.30pm: The Animal Garden will be presented by Laurent Peyronnel
- 2pm to 5.30pm: The Mission for Energy Transition will explain all the advantages of using "Ma Consigne" and its benefits for your health and the environment
- 2.30pm to 5.30pm – Monaco City Hall presents the "Petite Boîte" initiative to combat food waste when dining out
