Saint Devota celebrations
Find out more about the programme and practical arrangements for the Saint Devota celebrations which will take place on Sunday 26 and Monday 27 January.
Saint Devota, is the patron saint of Monaco, the Royal Family and the Monaco Diocese. These celebrations are among the oldest traditions of the Principality of Monaco, and have permeated the national culture in areas as diverse as religion, folklore, popular beliefs, history, literature, the arts, painting, music, coins and stamps.
Programme
SUNDAY 26 JANUARY 2025
- 10.30 am Church of St. Devota: mass of the traditions, in Monegasque
- 6.00 pm Chicane of the F1 Grand Prix: procession of the Relics of Saint Devota
- 7 pm Church of St. Devota: Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament
- Followed by: Quai Albert I: burning of the symbolic boat by the Royal Family
- Followed by: Drone show
MONDAY 27 JANUARY 2025
- 10 am Cathedral of Monaco: Pontifical Mass presided over by H.E. Monseigneur Paul-Richard GALLAGHER, Secretary for Relations with States, Secretariat of State
- Following the mass, there will be a Procession of the Relics on the Rocher
- 6.30 pm. Cathedral of Monaco: Candlelight Concert "Mozart in Monaco". Presented by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra with, once again, an outstanding programme featuring iconic works of sacred music by the greatest composer in history. Conducted by Italian conductor Diego Ceretta and with the Coro del Friuli Venezia Giulia choir, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra will accompany clarinettist Pierre Génisson as he performs the sublime Adagio from the Concerto pour clarinette, and international soprano Emőke Baráth, who will sing Exsultate Jubilate and Laudamus Te from the Mass in C Minor. Excerpts from the Mass in C Major and the great Ave Verum will be performed by the various ensembles

Practical arrangements for Sunday 26 January 2025
Several measures have been put in place to facilitate the organisation and ensure the security. These relate to car traffic and public access to the locations where the ceremonies are taking place (Procession on Quai des Etats-Unis/route de la piscine – Ceremony on Place Sainte Dévote - Burning of the symbolic boat on Quai Albert Ier).
Public access
Security checkpoints, including visual searches of bags and containers, and a “public” zone, will be in place from 5.30 pm:
- On Place Sainte Dévote for those wishing to watch the procession as it passes and the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament
- On the northern section of Quai Albert Ier for those wishing to watch the burning of the symbolic boat
Access to railway station
- St. Devota valley will be closed to pedestrians from 5.30 pm
- The St. Devota stairs will also be closed from 5.30 pm
- Passengers are asked to use Galerie Sainte-Dévote to reach or leave the station when heading to or from Rue Grimaldi
Practical traffic arrangements
- From 18.15pm to 7pm, Route de la Piscine will be closed to traffic from Avenue J.F. Kennedy to the Jules Soccal Jetty
- From 6.45pm to 7.45pm, traffic will be temporarily halted on Boulevard Albert I, Avenue J.F. Kennedy, and Avenue d’Ostende to ensure the smooth running of the event
Transport and parking arrangements
- During the road closures described above, there will be disruption to the city’s public transport services (affecting services 1, 2, 3 and 6), as well as to intercity services (ZOU! No. 600 and No. 80)
- With regard to car parks (access/diversion), information will be provided to users (notices will be posted at car park access points) by the relevant organisation
