From Saturday 16 to Sunday 24 November 2024, European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) will be held in the Principality and throughout Europe. This year’s theme is food waste, and the slogan is "Waste is out of taste".

The aim behind EWWR is to encourage people to be more eco-friendly by opting for a more sustainable approach to consumption and limiting the amount of waste they produce as far as possible.

For this year’s event, the Department of the Environment, in partnership with the Department of Urban Amenities, Monaco City Hall and the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement (Monegasque Sanitation Company) is organising an EWWR village on Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 November, from 9 am to 6 pm, on Promenade Honoré II and at Casa d’I Soci.

The village will be open to all and will feature some 15 stalls specially equipped for the event. It will host numerous events all about reducing waste, food waste, the circular economy, repair, recycling and raising awareness about protecting the environment.

In parallel with this event and in light of the fantastic way in which people stepped up during previous EWWR events, the Department of the Environment is once again organising collections of underwear and glasses. As in previous years, donated items should be deposited at the collection points outside the Fontvieille Shopping Centre.

This year, a third, somewhat unique, collection campaign is also being launched at all of the Principality’s hairdressers. During EWWR, hairdressers will be asked to keep all of the hair that they cut so that it can be sent to the Association Coiffeurs Justes (Association of Fair Hairdressers, the organisation behind this collection in France). This incredible natural and inexhaustible resource will then be recycled and turned into non-polluting solutions.

The full EWWR 2024 programme is available on the Your Monaco mobile app and in the press kit which has been uploaded to the Prince’s Government website.
