"Polar Mission" Major Exhibition
Attracting one million visitors and raising awareness of the polar regions' fragile state, "Polar Mission", which runs until the end of January 2025, takes visitors on a six-stage journey to the heart of the Arctic and Antarctic. You'll have the chance to meet the brave explorers who have ventured into these regions, discover the species that have adapted to these extreme environments, meet some of the local inhabitants, and the researchers who are propelling science forward.
Included in the Oceanographic Museum entrance ticket.
The tour also offers the chance to support the project to create three large Marine Protected Areas around Antarctica. An awareness-raising message explains the urgent need to take action. Make your voice heard through a digital device!
With the "Polar Mission" family booklet packed with ten pages of games, children can follow in the footsteps of the great explorers to discover the richness and fragility of the polar regions. As Polar Ambassadors, they can take a Polar Reporter diploma home with them.
Price: €3
Booklets on sale: at the ticket office (available in French and English).
New Temporary Exhibition until 6 October - "Les Géants des Glaces" by Michel Bassompierre
Polar bears and emperor penguins are the stars of Michel BASSOMPIERRE’s new exhibition Les Géants des Glaces (The Ice Giants). By highlighting these species, the Oceanographic Institute and the artist, in collaboration with Galeries Bartoux, hope to move visitors and raise their awareness of the major issues facing the polar regions. This temporary exhibition is part of the polar programme supported by the Oceanographic Institute since 2022.
The Oceanographic Museum and its roof terrace have been transformed to exhibit seven monumental works of art. To mark the occasion, the sculptor will be unveiling five new creations, made especially for this exhibition: four polar bears and a 3-metre-high emperor penguin. Original drawings and sketches will also be on display accompanied by the continuous projection of a film showing the artist’s work in the intimacy of his studio. The exhibition runs until 6 October 2024.
Included in the Oceanographic Museum entrance ticket.
