The first of the Concerts at the Prince’s Palace 2024 is just around the corner!
This summer's Concerts at the Prince's Palace opens on Thursday, 11 July, with the first conducted by James Gaffigan and featuring the talented French pianist Alexandre Kantorow.
The programme features César Franck's ‘Le Chasseur Maudit’, Franz Liszt's ’Concerto for Piano No. 2’ in A major, and to close, George Gershwin's ’An American in Paris’.
On Thursday, 18 July, the audience will be swept off their feet to the heart of Romantic music conducted by Cristian Măcelaru, with the young violin virtuoso María Dueñas performing Max Bruch's sublime ‘Concerto for Violin No. 1’. The programme will also feature two of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's compositions, ‘Capriccio Italien’ and ‘Francesca da Rimini’.
Born in Granada in 2002, María Dueñas studied violin at her local conservatoire before heading to Vienna. In 2014, an overseas scholarship led her to Dresden for two years, where she drew the attention of conductor Marek Janowski.
After scooping up a string of first prizes at prestigious international competitions, María Dueñas' sensational performance at the 2021 Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists earned her both the First Prize and the Audience Prize.
In April 2023, she was awarded the prestigious Premio Princesa de Girona de las Artes y las Letras in her home country.
A versatile musician and passionate composer, Maria is a highly sought-after international talent.
The dress code is formal/evening wear (a jacket and tie is compulsory for men and elegant attire for women).
