Understanding the process
Pupils educated in state educational establishments in the Principality who fulfil the conditions below can benefit from a subsidy for canteen. This subsidy is intended to help pupils' parents or legal guardians with the cost of canteen.
Applications should be made before 2pm on the last Friday of November of the current school year.
Pupils who belong to one of the categories below can request the canteen subsidy:
- Pupils of monegasque nationality
- Pupils of foreign nationality born of a monegasque ascendant; from a family where one of the parents is monegasque; or the dependant of a monegasque national
- Pupils of foreign nationality who are dependents or orphans of a Government or Commune officials, or of an employee of a public institution or a French authority based in the Principality in accordance with the Treaty for at least five years, in employment or retired, and in the latter case, living in Monaco or one of the neighbouring towns
- Pupils of foreign nationality whose parents have lived in Monaco for at least ten years
The parents must also fulfil one of the following conditions:
- Be a widowed, divorced or separated father or a widowed, divorced or separated mother
- A family in which both parents carry out a professional activity
- A family with at least three children living at home
You must provide different supporting documents, depending on your situation:
- An extract from the pupil's birth certificate
- Pupil's family civil status form or a copy of family record booklet
- Pupil's certificate of nationality
- Pupil's certificate of registration for the year of application
- A certificate of registration of other members of your household for the year of application
- Bank account details (IBAN) of the legal representative or the pupil if over 18 years old during the year of the application
If your application is being monitored by a social worker:
- Authorisation for payment to the company contracted to provide the school catering service
- An extract from the pupil's birth certificate
- Pupil's family civil status form or a copy of family record booklet
- Parents' proof of nationality for children of Monegasque parents
- Pupil's certificate of registration for the year of application
- A certificate of registration of other members of your household for the year of application
- Bank account details (IBAN) of the legal representative or the pupil if over 18 years old during the year of the application
If your application is being monitored by a social worker:
- Authorisation for payment to the company contracted to provide the school catering service
- An extract from the pupil's birth certificate
- Pupil's family civil status form or a copy of family record booklet
- Pupil's certificate of registration for the year of application
- A certificate of registration of other members of your household for the year of application
- Bank account details (IBAN) of the legal representative or the pupil if over 18 years old during the year of the application
If your application is being monitored by a social worker:
- Authorisation for payment to the company contracted to provide the school catering service
- An extract from the applicant's birth certificate
- A family civil status form or a copy of family record booklet
- A certificate of registration of other members of your household for the year of application
- Parents' proof of nationality for children of Monegasque parents
- A certificate of residence less than three months old, certifying 10 years of continuous residence, for foreign nationals (including French nationals) whose parents do not work in the government sector
- Bank account details (IBAN) of the legal representative or the pupil if over 18 years old during the year of the application
You must provide proof of any additional income received (securities and income from investments, stocks, bank interest, etc.) between January and December of the past year or a declaration of non-receipt, according to the model provided (in the application form). Please note: a declaration must be provided for each person over the age of 18 living in the household (including students).
You must also provide financial supporting documents corresponding to the situation of the members of the family for the past year:
- A copy of the payslip for the month of December of the year preceding the application, mentioning the net year-to-date total
Or
- Overall declaration of net salaries and bonuses received between January and December of the year preceding the application
For employees of the Princess Grace Hospital:
- Overall declaration of net salaries and bonuses received January and December of the year preceding the application
- A copy of pension contributions made for the year preceding the application
- A copy of your payslip for the month of December of the year preceding the application, stating the annual net total
- If you have received bonuses/ indemnities between January and December of the previous year: a global declaration of the net salary received between January and December of the year preceding the application, stating the amount of the bonuses/indemnities
- Proof of the amount of paid leave received between January and December of the year preceding the application
- A duly certified accounting statement of the sums taken by the manager during the period from January to December of the year preceding the application (or, failing that, during the previous business year)
- A sworn certificate of the income received
- A copy of the VAT returns and turnover submitted to the Tax Services for the period of January to December of the year preceding the application
- Proof of deductible expenses (CAMTI, CARTI, fuel, vehicle maintenance, insurance, parking) for the period of January to December of the year preceding the application
- A copy of the ASSEDIC dismissal notice or of unemployment benefit paid by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services or the Employment Office received between January and December of the year preceding the application
- Assistance allowances for returning to work (ARE) paid by the Employment Service between January and December of the year preceding the application
- A declaration from the various pension schemes stating the amount of retirement pension received between January and December of the year preceding the application
- A global declaration from Monaco Town hall stating the amount of social allowances (State old-age pension, special retirement allowance or other) received between January and December of the year preceding the application
- A global declaration issued by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services stating the amount of social allowances received between January and December of the year preceding the application
For retirees from the Monegasque Administration:
- A copy of the pension slip for the month of December of the year preceding the application, mentioning the net year-to-date total
- For candidates who received a salary in the year preceding the application: proof of all net income received during the year
- For candidates who received a salary during the academic year of the application: a copy of the contract mentioning the number of hours of work per week
- An overall declaration from CCSS, SPME or CAF in France mentioning the family allowances and any special payments (such as the special bonus for school-year start, educational allowance and end-of-year bonus) received between January and December of the year preceding the application
or
- A declaration of non-receipt issued by CCSS, SPME or CAF on the period between January and December of the year preceding the application, (example : for an application in 2020, the period of the declaration should go from 1/1/2019 to 31/12/2019)
For applicants with monegasque citizenship:
- A global declaration issued by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services stating the amount of the social allowances ("parent at home" or "mother at home" or other) received between January and December of the year preceding the application
or,
- A declaration of non-receipt issued by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services for the period between January and December of the year preceding the application
For applicants with foreign citizenship:
- An affidavit for non-receipt of remuneration on the period between January to December of the year preceding the application (example : for an application in 2020, the period should go from 1/1/2019 to 31/12/2019)
- A complete copy of the divorce ruling (or separation), divorce settlement agreement and any subsequent ruling
And
- Up-to-date proof of the amount of maintenance payments and other contributions to the education and maintenance of the child(ren), received between January and December of the year preceding the application
or, if applicable
- A sworn statement of non-collection of maintenance payments and other contributions to the education and maintenance of the child(ren), received between January and December of the year preceding the application
For applicants with monegasque citizenship:
- An overall declaration issued by the Departement of Social Welfare and Social Services stating any social allowances received between January and December in the year preceding the application
or
- A declaration of non-receipt issued by the aforementionned Departement for the period between January and December of the preceding year (example : for an application in 2020, the period should go from the 1/1/2019 to 31/12/2019)
- Documentary evidence of the rent amount (Monaco and foreign countries) paid between January and December of the year preceding the application
- Proof of employed status: a copy of a payslip from the month of December of the year preceding the application, stating the annual net total
- Students currently studying: a certificate of attendance at an educational establishment or a copy of a student's card for the previous academic year and the current year
- In cases where children have undertaken one or several paid activities between January and December of the year preceding the application: proof of all net income received in the year
- In the case of a change in the composition of the household (renewal of application only): proof of departure from the household of the brother or sister of the applicant (a certificate of departure from the Principality issued by the Police Department if domiciled in the Principality, copy of the lease, receipt for accommodation, etc)
No paid activity in the year preceding the application:
- overall proof of net unemployment benefits received in the year, or
- A sworn statement that no remuneration was received in the year
- A duly certified accounting statement of all types of remuneration received between January and December of the year preceding the application

Applicants are asked to note that applications should be sent to the Department of Education, Youth and Sport before 2pm on the last Friday of November of the current school year, even if they are incomplete.
No applications received after this date can be considered.

Applicants should note that this calculator provides an estimate of the amount of the study grant that they may be eligible to receive. The amount shown is for information purposes only, and in no way incurs any liability on the part of government departments.
A definitive amount will be provided only once the application and required supporting documents have been sent to the Department of Education, Youth and Sport and following review of the application by the relevant technical departments.
