Principle

In 1996, at the wish of Prince Rainier III, 10 studios were created to host artists in exceptional conditions and thus help boost artistic life in the Principality.

Since 2009, at the wish of H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover, the studios Allocation Committee, under the leadership and direct management of the Department of Cultural Affairs, has allocated studios to emerging artists and professionals developing an innovative and high-quality approach to artistic creation.

To promote and coordinate the cultural policy of the Prince's Government in this way, the Department of Cultural Affairs is providing artists with creative spaces which offer optimum conditions for artists to develop their work.

The Studios

  • Two studios, from 110 to 120m2, without living accommodation, comprising a work space, a kitchen with equipment and a bathroom
  • Four studios with possible living accommodation, of 100 and 160 m2, comprising a work space, a sleeping space, a kitchen with equipment and a bathroom

Residency

The residencies will be awarded by an expert selection jury, based on the nature of the artists' projects, and will last from one to six months, with the possibility of renewal once.

A call for applications is published twice per year in the Journal Officiel de Monaco.

Particular attention is paid to the residency project that has an international dimension:

Artists will be selected on the basis of applications and/or invitations.

Conditions

Artists must be present throughout the residency and develop artistic research or projects, which must be presented at a visit to the studio, organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs at the end of the residencies.

A report must also be submitted to the Allocation Committee in the month following the end of the residency.

Artists who have already been allocated a studio, or who have already been refused twice, cannot reapply.
