Theft of a car - What you should do
Inform the Police
If the theft has just happened, you should inform our services immediately by dialling 17 or 93.15.30.15.
For vehicles registered in the Principality, you should inform the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office.
In cases of attempted theft, you should not touch the vehicle, as it will have to be examined.
Gather together all the vehicle's documents
Ensure that you have all the following documents, if they have not been stolen:
- Registration certificate
- Insurance certificate
File a complaint
You should go to the Emergency Services to file a complaint of theft.
You will be issued with a certificate giving proof of theft for your insurance.
Following this, the Prosecutor General's office will inform you of the results of the enquiry.
Theft of a mobile phone - What you should do
Whatever the circumstances of the theft, you should go to the Emergency Services, taking with you:
- The "IMEI" number, if you have it. To obtain this number, tap the following code into your phone: *#06#. The IMEI code will then appear automatically
- The telephone number of your phone
- The name of your phone service provider
Notify your mobile phone service provider, who will temporarily cancel the line to avoid fraudulent use.
Following this, the General Prosecutor's office will notify you of the results of the enquiry.
Stolen Identity Documents - What you should do
Go to the Emergency Services, taking with you:
- Another identity document, if possible
- If necessary, a third party who can confirm your identity if you have no other identity documents
