Understanding the process
In accordance with Articles 27 to 30 of the Sovereign Ordinance No. 7.155 of 10 October 2018 on the granting of dependency allowances to civil servant, other Government and Commune officials, and Articles 12 to 14 of Ministerial Decree No. 2018-952 of 10 October 2018 implementing the said Ordinance, the family support allowance is granted to Civil servants, other Government and Commune officials, whether currently employed or retired, who are single parents and not living in a conjugal relationship, i.e.:
- Widower, widow
- Divorced or separated
- Single
The allowance is paid equally to each separated or divorced parent when the child(ren) reside(s) alternately at the domicile of each parent, provided they are affiliated to the State Medical Benefits Office.
In order to obtain this allowance you must apply for it and and you must have at least one dependent child or be effectively caring for at least one child (legally entrusted to you in the event of divorce or legal separation), allowing you a right to family allowances.
Payment of the allowance takes effect from the date of the request, subject to the provision of supporting documents.
If approved, you will receive the family support allowance straight away. We may write to you to request additional information or to inform you that your application has been rejected.
To get these forms you can either:
- Download them here
- Collect them from the State Medical Benefits Office
You must supply the following documents:
- If you are separated: a copy of the separation ruling or a declaration of de facto separation (form available from SPME) giving the civil servant or official concerned full or shared custody of the child(ren)
- If you are divorced: a non-reconciliation order or an order implementing the legal separation or divorce which entrusts the care of minors to the civil servant (or other Government official) concerned
- If you are a widower or a widow: a spouse’s death certificate
- If you are single: proof of custody of the child (e. g. amicable agreement between the parents with regard to the type of custody)
- In all the aforementioned cases, if you are subject to taxation: the tax assessment notice for the year preceding the current year
You can either:
- Hand in your duly completed and signed form, together with the required documents, to the State Medical Benefits Office (SPME) reception desk between 9.30 am and 5 pm from Monday to Friday, or in it post box. No appointment is needed
- Or send your duly completed and signed form, together with the required documents to the State Medical Benefits Office by post
