Disabled parking permits are issued to any person registered as disabled where their degree of disability is at least 80%, provided that their disability significantly reduces their capacity to walk independently or requires that they are accompanied by another person when travelling.
Understanding the process
Parking permits allow holders and those accompanying them to use parking spaces which have been reserved and made available for this purpose.
Under the same conditions, it also allows holders to take advantage of other provisions relating to traffic movement and parking which may be put in place for persons with disabilities by the relevant authorities.
To get these forms you can either:

- Or collect them from the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services
You must ask your general practitioner to complete the medical certificate.
The certificate must be dated of less than 3 months before date the application is submitted.
You must supply:
- A copy of the disabled person’s identity card or residence permit
- 2 ID photos
- A copy of the vehicle registration certificate
- The application, including supporting documents and a completed application form must be submitted to the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services
- The medical certificate should be sent in confidence to the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services Medical Inspector
