Please find below an FAQ containing questions and answers relating to driving licences in Monaco.

With category AM, you can drive:

  • Two- or three-wheeled mopeds, with a maximum power not exceeding 4 kw and a maximum speed not exceeding 45 km/h 
  • Light quadricycles with a maximum power not exceeding 4 kw and 6 kw for models which have an enclosed cabin and are accessible from a maximum of three sides

With category A1, you can drive two wheeled mopeds, with a maximum power not exceeding 11 kw and three-wheeled mopeds with a maximum power not exceeding 15 kw.

With a category B licence obtained more than 2 years ago, you can drive category A1 (two wheeled mopeds, with a maximum power not exceeding 11 kw, three-wheeled mopeds with a maximum power not exceeding 15 kw) on Monegasque territory only. A category B licence does not allow you to drive a 125cc scooter or a category A1 tricycle in France or any other foreign territory.

No, you cannot drive a land motor vehicle without a licence in the Principality of Monaco.

Yes, it is strongly advised to have an international driving licence to drive outside Monaco. It must be accompanied by the corresponding national licence. You may also be required to produce it when renting a car.

You will be issued a driving licence valid for 15 days (within the limit of its original validity) once you have submitted your renewal application, allowing you to continue driving until the new licence is issued.

However, if you send your application by post, the original licence to be renewed must be included in the application; you will receive your new driving licence by post.
