An exemption allowing a vehicle registered in the Principality to be inspected by an authorised Vehicle Testing Centre in France can be requested under certain conditions.
Understanding the process
In the event that an owner is unable to present a vehicle for its scheduled inspection at the Vehicle Testing Centre in the Principality, dispensation to have the inspection carried out at a Vehicle Testing Centre in France (excluding the Alpes-Maritimes region) may be requested. In order to be considered, the request must be justified.
The request for dispensation to have the statutory technical inspection carried out in France (excluding the Alpes-Maritimes region) must be sent to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office by post or by email to (circulation@gouv.mc), stating the justification.
Following consideration of the request, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office will send a written response by post or email.
If the request is granted, the statutory (not voluntary) technical inspection can be carried out in France (excluding the Alpes-Maritimes region), at a Vehicle Testing Centre which is accredited in France. The Centre may require you to present an EU certificate of conformity or proof of identification before carrying out the technical visit, in accordance with French legislation in force since 1 April 2010. This certificate is issued on request only by the manufacturer or importer of the make in France.
A copy of the validated inspection report and, where appropriate, follow-up inspection report, should be sent to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office by post or by email to circulation@gouv.mc, before the expiry date of the vehicle.
Depending on the faults to be corrected that are listed on the French technical inspection report (with no obligation to arrange a follow-up inspection), a separate technical inspection (which must be paid for) may be required at the Vehicle Testing Centre in Monaco.
If approved, the new expiry date will be the one recorded on the technical inspection report issued in France. It should be understood that some of the statutory periods which apply in France are different to those used in Monaco, and may therefore be changed.
The original copy of the inspection report must be kept inside the vehicle.
