How to take your vehicle for a technical inspection

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office will receive now visitors at its new offices situated at 5 Promenade Honoré II - Hall B - 6^th floor.
The contact details and opening hours remain identical.

Vehicles must undergo technical inspections to check that they are in good working order and properly maintained. These inspections are carried out by the testers at the Monaco Vehicle Testing Centre.

Understanding the process

A technical inspection appointment may be required in the following three situations:

Periodically before the expiry date noted on the registration certificate; the frequency depends on the type of vehicle and how it is used. A letter will be sent to owners of vehicles registered in Monaco four months before the due date to invite them to make an appointment
Prior to a new registration, whether relating to a new vehicle as part of a mandatory initial inspection for certain types of vehicle use, or to used cars registered in the Principality or abroad
Prior to the use of an auxiliary luxury chauffeur-driven vehicle

You can request an appointment for a follow-up technical inspection online, by post, or at the reception desk of the Vehicle Testing Centre.

To make an appointment online with the Vehicle Testing Centre's online service (CCTV), you will need your registration certificate in the case of a used vehicle, or the European Certificate of Conformity in the case of a new vehicle. Once the appointment time has been chosen and payment made, the appointment details and payment receipt (invoice) will be sent to you by email.

You can also request an appointment by post, by stating your availability and enclose cheque clearable in Monaco or France, made out to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office.

An invitation taking account of the availability you indicated (depending on free time slots) will be sent to you by post with a payment receipt.

You also have the option of going directly to the reception desk of the Vehicle Testing Centre or to the counter of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office stating your availability and paying any sums due by bank card, cash or cheque clearable in Monaco or France, made out to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office, in accordance with the current fee schedule.

An appointment invitation and payment receipt (invoice) will be given to you.

Appointments can be rescheduled free of charge up to the evening before the appointment, preferably online with the Vehicle Testing Centre's online service (CCTV), or by phone (+377) 98 98 48 58 or by email (circulation@gouv.mc).

For any changes to an appointment, you will need either your invitation code or the registration and register numbers of the vehicle concerned.

If you need to reschedule your appointment at less than 24 hours’ notice, you will have to pay a penalty to get a new appointment.

Before the inspection, It is highly advisable to check the condition and proper functioning of the whole vehicle.

Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes must be presented with a load such that the weight of the vehicle, load included, is equal to the total authorized laden weight (GVWR) or 2/3 of the load. However, some vehicles may be presented empty in accordance with the specifications set out in Appendix 8.

On the day of the appointment, bring the following with you:

The original copy of vehicle’s registration certificate
The appointment form
Any documents that may be requested regarding the specificities of the vehicles, such as a bodywork certificate, ATP certificate of conformity, certificate mentioning any modifications, etc

You have to present the vehicle at the agreed date and time at the Vehicle Testing Centre situated 8 avenue Albert II in Monaco.

Vehicles may not be parked in the stipulated centre more than 30 minutes before the time of the appointment.

Don’t forget to stop at reception to ensure that your arrival is recorded.

The technical visit cannot be carried out and additional costs will be required to obtain a new appointment in the following cases:

Failure to notify non-attendance at least 24 hours before the date set
Failure to attend the appointment
A delay of more than 5 minutes from the time set
Presenting the wrong vehicle

A technical visit lasts 30 minutes for light vehicles or 45 minutes for light electric vehicles and heavy goods vehicles and utility vehicles with gross weight> 3.5 tonnes.

Following the technical inspection, a report will be drawn up and a copy given to you, to be kept. This states the date of the inspection, any faults found, the result and the new due date.

If the vehicle is found to be in good condition, a sticker stating the next due date for the technical inspection will be affixed to the back of the registration certificate. As part of a technical inspection in advance of a new registration, please note that a positive report does not guarantee that the application to register the vehicle will be accepted.

If the condition of the vehicle does not comply with all the applicable technical provisions, the inspector will require a follow-up visit to be carried out; this must be undertaken before the new due date shown on the test report and the registration certificate.

If major faults are found, the owner of the vehicle has the following time limits to undertake the necessary repairs or adjustments and present the vehicle to the Vehicle Testing Centre:

A maximum period of two months for any vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of 3.5 tonnes or less (M1, N1, O1 and O2)
A maximum period of two months for any vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of 3.5 tonnes or more (M2, M3, N2, N3, O3, O4, T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5)

In the event of dangerous faults, the owner of the vehicle has a maximum of two weeks to undertake the necessary repairs or adjustments and present the vehicle to the Vehicle Testing Centre.

You can make an appointment online with the Vehicle Testing Centre (VTC), or at the Vehicle Testing Centre (VTC) reception, or at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office reception desk. No appointments will be made without payment.

In the case of a technical visit prior to registration or sale, a request for an appointment may be made in writing. You should state your availability and attach a cheque clearable in Monaco or France, made out to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office.

You will receive confirmation of an appointment, which takes account of the availability you indicated (depending on free time slots), with the receipt for payment, by post.

You can make an appointment directly at the reception desk of the Vehicle Testing Centre, or at the counter of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office (STC), stating your availability and paying the amounts due by bank card, cash or cheque clearable in Monaco or France, made out to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office, with the current fee schedule.

You will be sent details of the appointment and a payment receipt (invoice).
