Please find below an FAQ containing questions and answers relating to the registration and sale of vehicles in Monaco.

No, vehicles cannot be registered under the name of two people. When a vehicle is purchased, the invoice or bill of sale must be made out solely in the name of the vehicle's owner.

Yes, vehicles can be registered under the same number as your previous vehicle, provided that the sale of that vehicle was registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office within the last six months. Simply enter this number in the appropriate field on the application form.

No, once a vehicle has been registered and a number assigned to it, that number is permanent; the registration number cannot be changed at your preference.

The "récépissé de déclaration d'achat" is a document certifying that a professional French car dealer has purchased a used vehicle. When this professional sells the vehicle, they must give the buyer this receipt certifying the transfer of ownership, the old certificate of registration in the name of the previous owner and the documents relating to the vehicle.

No, a vehicle must be registered under the seller's name in their country of residence before they can sell it. Only professional car dealers who buy and sell vehicles are exempt from this rule.

Yes, the vehicle can be registered in the vintage series provided that one of the following two documents is provided:

  • A certificate from the Fédération Française des véhicules d’époque (FFVE, French Classic Car Federation) to obtain a "Vintage Vehicle" registration certificate
  • A certificate from the manufacturer, to obtain a registration certificate bearing the indication "Vintage Vehicle"

If the vehicle has previously been registered in the Principality, registration in this series may also be granted, provided a French registration certificate bearing the indication "Vintage Vehicle" is supplied.

Yes, if the details on your driving licence and certificate of registration differ from those declared to the City Hall or the Residency Section, you must request a change to your documents from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office using the appropriate procedure.

In the case of changes in the business name or address of a legal entity, a change of documents is also needed.

Yes, you can carry out a procedure on behalf of a third party. To do this, the third party must provide you with an authorisation, which, together with your respective identity documents, will enable you to submit the application and track its progress.

It should specify that the mandate allows the representative to submit the progress of the principal’s application(s), but not to sign documents instead of the principal.

The payment to be made by cash, cheque or postal order (clearable in Monaco or France), made out to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office and Visa or Mastercard bank are accepted at the counters.

No, you must be in possession of the original certificate of registration to drive a vehicle. If you are stopped by the police, you will be asked to present it. The payment receipt issued when you register your vehicle is in no way a vehicle registration document authorising you to drive your vehicle on public highways.

The invoice for the Renewal of registration (car sticker) is sent to all owners of vehicles registered in the Principality at the beginning of October.

A reminder is also sent at the end of November/beginning of December, if necessary.

If you have not received your invoice, please check that your letterbox is accessible and that the address on your registration documents is correct. If you have moved house, your documents should be replaced, and the invoice will be sent to your new address.

If all the details are correct, you can notify us of the non-receipt of your invoice by email at the following address: circulation@gouv.mc.

Yes, a vehicle can be sold or transferred if the technical inspection date has passed. However, a provisional or permanent certificate of registration cannot be issued without an approved technical inspection report.
