How to report the theft of a vehicle

In the event of the theft of a vehicule, the holder is required to inform the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office immediately by submitting the following document:

• The copy of the theft report made to the Police Department at the place where the theft occurred

If the vehicle has not been found within one month and one day from the date of the theft, the owner must request the removal of the vehicle from the registration register.

The request for the removal of the vehicle from the registration register must be addressed to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office by submitting the following documents:

• The original registration certificate, if not stolen with the vehicle 
• The certificate of sale or transfer of a second-hand vehicle in favour of the head office of the insurance company signed on the original:

• The form STC006 duly completed and signed on the original by the owner or the person legally responsible (named on the Trade & Industry Register/Articles of Association), who must include a copy of their identity document:

• The payment, to be made by cash, cheque or postal order (clearable in Monaco or France), made out to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office and Visa or Mastercard bank cards only, in accordance with the current fee schedule

And: 

• In the case of procedures carried out by a third party, A mandate signed by the principal and by supporting documents showing proof of these persons' identities; it should be noted that the mandate allows the representative to submit and track the progress of the principal’s application(s), but not to sign documents instead of the principal

To submit your application, you must first make an appointment with an agent of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office.

You can request an appointment in one of the following three ways:

The staff of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office will be waiting for you at the time of the appointment; you should bring with you the documents listed in step 1 and your preferred means of payment.

If the vehicle is insured against theft, a certificate of registration in France bearing the words "stolen vehicle" and a certificate of title clearance with a validity of 8 days are available within 72 hours by appointment and on presentation of the payment receipt (invoice) and an identity document.

If you did not arrange a collection date when you made your application, you can request an appointment in one of the following three ways:

If the vehicle is not insured against theft, no document will be issued.

If the vehicle is found before it is removed from the registration register, the owner must inform the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office by submitting a report, issued by a police authority, stating that the vehicle has been found. The owner may keep the vehicle registered under the same registration number, unless the number plates are not found with the vehicle.

If the vehicle is found after it has been removed from the registration register, the owner must inform the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office by submitting a report, issued by a police authority, stating that the vehicle has been found.  

He or she may request, as the case may be:

• A new registration, except when the vehicle has been transferred to the insurance company 
• A certificate for registration abroad 
• A certificate for destruction of the vehicle
