NEWS RELEASE

Additional emergency aid will be released in response to the crisis in Lebanon, following a recent decision by the Prince’s Government.

Since late 2023, Lebanon, which has been a partner of Monaco’s international cooperation programme for more than 20 years, has seen part of its population displaced, schools closed and an increase in health needs. An initial special aid package was therefore allocated several months ago at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The escalating conflict in the Middle East, with more than a million people – including more than 350,000 children – in need of assistance (protection, health, nutrition, etc.) has now led the Prince’s Government to allocate further aid amounting to €100,000.

This support will be directed towards the integrated response put in place by the Lebanese Association of Knights of the Order of Malta (ALCM) and the Amel Association International. These two experienced Lebanese organisations, who have long been partners of Monaco’s Official Development Assistance, have strong capabilities in providing health centres and specialist mobile units (health, protection, education and food distribution).

The Monaco Red Cross, at the request of its President, H.S.H. Prince Albert II, has launched an appeal for public donations to this cause.
