When you find an object on the public highway or in a place open to the public, deposit it with the Public Safety Department or the establishment concerned. If it is not claimed after one year and one day by its owner, you can recover it in turn.
Understanding the process
If You Have Found the Item on the Public Highway
Take it to the Police Department's Lost Property Office.
If You Have Found the Item in Premises that are Open to the Public
Give the item to the person in charge of the premises or the establishment's security service.
Leave your contact details as you have the right to claim the item if the owner does not collect it.
You can claim the item after a year and a day if the owner has not collected it.
To do so, you should take the following to the Lost Property Office:
- Valid proof of ID
- A receipt for handing in the item, if relevant
If someone is collecting the item on your behalf, in addition to the documents mentioned, he or she should provide proof of authority to collect the item and a photocopy of proof of ID of the person who has found the item.
