As part of the works to be carried out on 18 July 2025 in the reception desk offices of the Department of Education, Youth and Sport (DENJS), we would like to inform you that the department will be closed to the public. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
As a reminder, the Department receives now visitors in its offices situated at 5 Promenade Honoré II. - Hall A (2nd floor).
If you wish to enrol your child for the current school year and you are outside the enrolment period indicated on the factsheets for the different sections, you must follow the procedure described below.
Understanding the process
Education is compulsory for all children aged from six to sixteen who are Monegasque nationals or resident in Monaco. It is free in the State sector, fee-paying in the private sector.
Nursery school (école maternelle) is for children who have not yet reached the age for compulsory school attendance. Nursery schools accept children aged three and over, or who will reach this age in the first quarter of the school year, and children aged four and five.
Nursery school is not obligatory.
All Monegasque children, or children who have at least one Monegasque parent, must be offered a place on request in a State nursery school. Children whose parents live in the Principality but are not Monegasque nationals will be offered a place subject to availability.
Depending on the availability of places, children will be enrolled in their local school as a priority.
You must provide:
- The enrolment form
- A certificate of the child’s nationality
- Identity document of persons in charge (ID card, foreign ID card, passport)
- School reports from the last three terms (for children to whom compulsory schooling applies)
- For divorced parents: the divorce ruling (translated into French if necessary) and, in cases of shared parental custody, a letter from the second parent authorising schooling in Monaco, accompanied by a photocopy of an official document (such as an ID card or driving licence.)
- For parents who are separated: a photocopy of the official document specifying the adult who has custody and, in cases of joint parental custody, a letter from the second parent authorising schooling in Monaco, accompanied by a photocopy of an official document (such as an ID card or driving licence.) If you do not have an official document, you should provide the family allowance statement from your social insurance documents
You must provide:
- The enrolment form
- A photocopy of your residence permit or a confirmation slip for a residence permit (note that enrolment will only be definitive on presentation of a photocopy of your residence card)
- For the children more than 16 years old, the photocopy of their own residence permit or a confirmation slip for a residence permit
- The child's certificate of civil status, a photocopy of your family record booklet or a birth certificate showing proof of parentage
- School reports for the past three terms (for children who have not completed their mandatory schooling)
- For divorced parents: the divorce ruling (translated into French if necessary) and, in cases of shared parental custody, a letter from the second parent authorising schooling in Monaco, accompanied by a photocopy of an official document (such as an ID card or driving licence.)
- For parents who are separated: a photocopy of the official document specifying the adult who has custody and, in cases of joint parental custody, a letter from the second parent authorising schooling in Monaco, accompanied by a photocopy of an official document (such as an ID card or driving licence.) If you do not have an official document, you should provide a photocopy of a family allowance statement and a photocopy of your social insurance card
You must provide:

- A letter requesting the enrolment to the Department of Education, Youth and Sport, specify 3 schools in order of preference
- A certificate of the child’s nationality
- Identity document of persons in charge (ID card, foreign ID card, passport)
- School reports for the past three terms (for children who have not completed their mandatory schooling)
- For divorced parents: the divorce ruling (translated into French if necessary) and, in cases of shared parental custody, a letter from the second parent authorising schooling in Monaco, accompanied by a photocopy of an official document (such as an ID card or driving licence.)

- Obtain and fill in the form
- Submit supporting documents
- Submit the complete file
You will receive an acknowledgement of registration by email.
Once the file has been processed, you will receive a reply by email.

You should submit the completed form and supporting documents to the Department of Education, Youth and Sport.
After your application has been received and examined, you will receive a reply by post.
A test will be carried out to assess your child's level if:
- His or her mother tongue is a language other than French
- Your child was previously enrolled in a private school that was not under contract
In both cases, the Department of Education, Youth and Sport will send you the contact details of the Head of the school. You can then arrange the date of the test with him or her.
