Understanding the process
This allowance is granted to the mother or adoptive mother of any child of Monegasque nationality or who is likely to acquire it by declaration in accordance with the provisions of the Act no. 1.155 of 18 December 1992 amended.
The amount of the childbirth allowance is equal to 1.40 times the amount of the Caisse Autonome des Retraites' (The Independent Pensions Fund) base salary.
The childbirth allowance is paid in a single instalment on written request, to the mother, failing which it is paid to the father, guardian, person, or service who has responsibility for the child.
A standard letter template is provided by the Town Hall (Civil Status Office) on declaration of birth.
This letter should be sent to the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services, along with a certificate of nationality, the child’s birth certificate and a bank account details.
The application must be made within three years of the birth or the court's decision decreeing the adoption of the child.
